
The team has professionally qualified staff who will help students identify their needs through screenings or assessments. We are able to offer full dyslexia assessments* in College as well as guidance and assistance regarding applications for the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA).
The Learning Support team is there to help you manage your studies, providing additional support where necessary so that you are able to achieve your full potential. An Individual Learning Support Plan (ILSP) will be agreed with you which takes account of your additional needs e.g. dyslexia, visual or hearing impairment, mobility difficulties.

Tony Thomson Librarian, Director of Learning Support and Disability Advisor Tony became a Christian at the age of 24 whilst studying at college. He gained a BA (Hons) in History of Ideas and Religious Studies at Middlesex University followed by an MA in Library and Information Studies at Loughborough University. In 1998 he and his wife completed a CDTS (Crossroads Discipleship Training School) with YWAM.
Tony has worked in the learning support area for the past 7 years and enjoys helping students with learning needs to reach their full academic potential.
He relaxes by walking (especially the Lake District), reading and jogging. |

Claire Saunders Claire runs the One Year Courses programme at Moorlands, and is also part of the Learning Support Team. Trained as a primary school teacher, Claire has now been working with adults for the past five years, and has a particular interest in the development of study skills. She is currently qualified as a specialist teacher of dyslexic students, and completes her training in Assessment this year, when she will qualify with a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies, with Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association. |

Yvonne Bennett Yvonne became a Christian whilst at college in Birmingham where she studied religious and theological studies and gained a B.Ed degree. Her teaching experience has been in the special education field and she has qualifications in the areas of teaching and assessing dyslexia. She is married to Colin who also works at Moorlands and they have 3 grown up children. Her hobbies include walks in the countryside, reading, playing golf, watching TV and having coffee/lunch with friends. |

Sandra Lewis Sandra was educated at Burlington Grammar School before attending Maria Grey Training College where she studied Biology and Education. She obtained a Teaching Certificate (Infant & Juniors) and taught in a variety of schools, both full and part-time.
She taught all ages, from 3-11 years and particularly enjoyed working with children with Special Needs. When at home with her family she helped in local schools with Reading Support and general classroom tasks. She obtained her Threshold Standards Award before leaving teaching.
She then studied for 3 years at Moorlands College, taking many of the degree modules and gained the Moorlands Certificate. Her huband, Edward, also studied at this time and is now employed here. They have a grown up son living in London. Her hobbies include gardening, walking, swimming, reading, visiting historical houses and travel. |
