The Bible: tedious,
taboo and toxic or transforming, treasured and true?
On
18 March, 100 guests gathered at Moorlands to find out what the Evangelical
Alliance’s Biblefresh campaign is all about! Together, four keynote speakers convinced us that the Bible
is indeed true, with the eternal power to change and transform lives.
Rev
Dr Steve Brady (Principal) gave the opening sermon on the importance of the
Bible in every area of our lives, together with a personal testimony.
Rev Rob Cotton of
the Bible Society set out the aims and vision for the Biblefresh campaign and
urged all churches to start thinking about ways in which they can inspire
people and help them re-engage with Holy Scripture. He demonstrated new ideas
on how to stimulate thought in the public arena of advertising and how to get
church members to actually read their Bibles (having revealed startling
statistics on apathy towards to the Bible in and outside of the church).
Alistair
McKitterick, lecturer in Biblical and Theological Studies, gave a challenging
message on how to defend and proclaim the truth of the Bible in a pluralistic
and secular society. Alistair will be sharing more on these themes at the
Christian Resources Exhibition on 14 May, where you will also find the Moorlands’
stand in the Biblefresh zone.
Colin
Bennett (Deputy Principal) spoke on the importance of making the Bible
accessible to children and young people, along with the help of Steve
Strongman, the creator of the children’s game, ‘Testament Trumps’!
The
event will be available to view on this site very soon, including mp3
downloads!
