Course content

27 January: Applied theological tools of the trade
Colin Bennett, Moorlands College

Explore the applied theological challenges associated with Christian community development and evangelism. It will be an interactive day to help you begin to apply the Bible and a theology of community engagement to your own community situations.

17 February: Church at the centre
Jamie Sewell and Theresa Williams, The Message Trust

Place the Church at the centre of yoiur thinking about Christian community work and evangelism. There will be a focus on Church engagement in its widest sense—even to the extent of community enterprise and regeneration.

10 March: Upside down Kingdom
Helen Thorne, London City Mission

Evaluate your own community’s resilience in the light of the Gospel and the Kingdom message of Jesus. This will help you understand in more depth topics such as asset development, community profiling and disunity in community.

21 April: Making disciples
Ade Omooba, Christian Concern

Engage relevantly with your community through evangelistic engagement. This will include looking at making disciples who mature and multiply as a way of engaging with communities. Plus further study on community understanding and developing our own redemption stories.

12 May: Authentic community
Andy du Feu, Moorlands College

Look at how the Gospel and community work are best served by community profiling, and explore barriers to unity in communities by examining diversity/unity tensions.

23 June: Politics and activism
Colin Bennett, Moorlands College

Reflect on a range of practical issues a Christian community activist may face, and examine the current state of Christian welfare. We’ll also consider whether Christians should be engaged with politics. Share your learning with each other in small groups and action plan your next steps.
